Medical Advocacy

Consistently, I hear from parents their frustration, pain, and at times, even desperation in attempting to work effectively with all elements of our healthcare system. Unfortunately, the complex needs of our troubled and struggling teens, frequently puts us in touch with a wide spectrum of healthcare related resources: hospitals, doctors, school systems, insurance companies, pharmacists, medications, and endless number of other specialists. For most hard working, over taxed parents, the added time requirement and added stress of attempting to understand this complex maze of needed help and support is too much to take on alone without some “inside” help.

Parent and Family Advocates, LLC brings over 25 years of experience assisting families with medical issues. Our medical advocate spent years working as a pediatric registered nurse in both hospital and physician office settings gaining exposure and understanding in how offices work, and how to communicate effectively with doctors, nurses, and staff. In the last ten years, she has worked as an executive in several well know pharmaceutical companies. Her experiences provide for knowledge of appropriate medications, specialists; how to maximize insurance benefits, and the unique ability to simplify and explain medical jargon.

Our healthcare advocacy work includes the following:

  • Initial in-person or phone assessment of your current healthcare situation and needs.
  • Complete review of medical records and history
  • Contact providers for clarification to facilitate understanding with an eye towards understanding, simplification and improved insurance coverage.
  • Create a plan for all healthcare activity going forward.
  • Attend sessions with any healthcare related providers; including school IEP sessions. Advocate for the best interests of all parties.
  • Teach interested family members in how to advocate for themselves or others
